Al-Sumait Prize 2017

The Egyptian National Commission announces for Al-Sumait Prize 2017.

The Prize is worth 1 Million US Dollars. It is to be awarded to individuals or institutions that through their research projects or initiatives have made significant advancement within one or more of the following areas of Education:

· Improving people's access to basic or advanced education.

· Improving literacy among all members of society.

· Decreasing the dependence of children’s education on the socio-economical status of their parents.

 Conditions and requirements:

· A candidate must have tangible achievements and creative works up to the desired level for the prize.

· The submitted work must be of paramount importance in promoting economic and social development, human resource development and infrastructure in the African continent.

· Studies and applied research must be published in referred journals and need to be circulated and recognized on a global level in the allocated announced field. The research outcome needs to have been applied after publication in African countries within the past ten years. Adequate evidence needs to be provided.

· Projects and initiatives should be relevant to the prize and must include sufficient evidence of the achievements during the past ten years. The evidence should include an expert’s opinion and documented results obtained from the application of these initiatives or projects.

· Nominations are to be accepted from the institutions and scientific centers (universities, institutes and centers of scientific research) as well as from regional or international organizations and awards, former winners in the field of the prize or former evaluation members Self nominations are not accepted.

· All documents (studies, researches, reports, projects etc.) should be submitted electronically.

· All submissions must be submitted in English.

· Fill in the prize nomination form to be found on the link titled (Education Open) at the top on the left side of this page. Upload your scientific documents using any online cloud service such as dropbox, wetransfer or oneDrive. Insert (copy/paste) the link into the application form and click the submit button on the bottom of the form. You may also fill in the nomination form and submit your scientific documents electronically in PDF format via CD, DVD or Flash Memory (USB).

The USAID-funded Public University Scholarships program through the U.S.-Egypt Higher Education Initiative is a scholarship for high school graduates to attend excellence programs at public universities in parallel with specially-designed supplementary enhancement activities such as English, leadership training and career planning, as well as internships, community service, and study abroad. The program will interweave the private sector and practical experiences so that graduates are primed to enter and contribute to the workforce in Egypt, in sectors that are critical to the economic development of the country.

Scholarship privileges:

Studying in excellence programs at universities: Cairo, Ain Shams, Assuit, Mansoura, and Alexandria.
Studying in the fields that are crucial in building the future economy of Egypt (Engineering, Commerce, Nursing, Science, Information Technology, Agriculture, Law, Mass Communication, Education and Economics).
There are limited opportunities for faculty of commerce, (Priority for students of Arts section)
Applicants for faculty of Agriculture will have priority.
Costs covered by the scholarship: (tuition fees, books, laptop, enhancement courses on basic skills, accommodation, and transportation).
65% of the students will study a semester abroad in the United States.
Summer training sessions and community projects.
Intensive English courses, leadership skills, and entrepreneurship.
The program qualifies students to gain the practical experience needed for the job market.

Who is eligible?

Egyptian young men and women enrolled in Thanaweyya Amma in government schools including STEM schools.
Student achievers in their first and second secondary results.
Participated in community activities.
Includes scholarships specifically for disabled applicants.

On March 25, 2017, the First Conference of Student Initiatives in Egyptian Universities was held, organized by Mansoura University in cooperation with the Association for Egypt, under the patronage of Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research.

, Prof. Dr. Mohamed El-Din El-Qenawy, President of the University in the presence of Mr. Dr. Ahmed Shaarawy, Governor of Daqahlia, Mr. Ashraf Abdel Basset, Vice President for Education and Students Affairs, Mr. Reda Abdel Salam, Former, doctor Dr. Osama Al-Azhari, Media / Sherif Fouad. The opening was also attended by members of the House of Representatives from Dakahlia governorate, the governorates of the participating universities, and the deans and agents.

The conference was attended by 30 initiatives from 16 Egyptian universities: Cairo, Alexandria, Al Azhar, Banha, Ain Shams, Fayoum, Damietta, Menia, Helwan, Suez Canal, Sohag.
The fields of initiatives include health and environment, economics, culture and arts, social space, women and children, education, political and human rights, sports, media and networking, engineering and technology, Arab and African cooperation.
Prof. Mohamed El-Desouki pointed out the importance of holding this conference, which shows the spirit of competitiveness among students from different Egyptian universities through initiatives that are in the interest of promoting the country. The conference will result in the discovery of innovative initiatives that can be implemented in the future. Found.
Prof. Ashraf Abdel Basset welcomed the students of the Egyptian universities to the University of Mansoura University, stressing that the university administration will work to carry out its responsibilities towards better education and provide the opportunity for creative young people in all fields and to highlight the positive part of our students. Building Egypt and solving its immediate and future problems. These initiatives will be presented to the executive bodies to study the feasibility of implementing them.
Dr. Ahmed Shaarawy stressed that the conference brings together the sons of the Egyptian universities, the youth of Egypt and they are an integral part of the state. There will be no building without these young people, each of them having a role and an effective role in building the nation.
