A New Achievement in Distinguished Scientific Publication for Egyptian Scientists
Prof. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar has presented the report of the most recent results included in the statistics of Scopus indexed journals, Elsevier's abstract and citation database, for the international scientific publication of all countries for 2018. These results were announced by the Spanish Institution : Scimago for rankings and Egypt ranked 35 out of 233 countries among the top 15% of countries compared to its ranking in 2017 and 2011, as it ranked 38 and 40 respectively.
The Minister of Higher Education stated that the number of Egyptian researchers in various sectors reached 135,000 researchers. This number has increased the research outputs in terms of the number of scientific publications. The total number of international publications in the world-indexed journals was 22,018 in 2018 with a significant increase of 17.2% compared to 18,782 researches published in 2017.
Prof. Abdel Ghaffar has praised the recording of the highest percentage of Egyptian research published in the top 1% and 10% of the list of journals listed in Scopus, where the publication was 1.3% and 12.9% of the total Egyptian research respectively.
In 2018 the international publication of the Egyptian academic and scientific institutions was very distinguished. The Egyptian institutions ranked top 10% of the world in three specialties: Toxicology, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Pharmacology and Drug Discovery.
They also ranked the top 10% to 15% globally in 40 majors and specialties.
Egypt also ranked 20th out of 106 countries in scientific publishing in the field of Nanotechnology in 2018. The number of citations during the period of 2015-2018 reached 326,385 citations , averaging 4.3 citations/ research.
The average impact of citations in research fields in Egypt was 1.11 (Field-Weighted Citation Impact), and the Hirsch index reached 260.
Prof. Abdel Ghaffar has pointed out that most universities have increased scientific publishing rewards and increased the funding opportunities to support the publication of research and to motivate researchers to publish in the top lists of specialty journals such as the American Web of Science and the Dutch Scopus platforms.

Moreover, the Ministry of Higher Education in collaboration with the Egyptian Knowledge Banks, has made a deal with Clarivate to include journals that publish its research papers in Arabic to get an impact factor if they meet with the international requirements and standards. In this case, the title of the research could be in Arabic and also the abstract.
Prof. Abdel Ghaffar has emphasized that analysis proves that publication in Medicine is the highest as at all as the number of published researches has reached 5867 in 2017 and 2018.Engineering comes second with a number of researches 3544, then Chemistry comes third with 2760 researches. Chemical Engineering is the highest in citation, around 4.0 citation/research. Neuro Sciences researches have recorded 3.6 citations/research.
It is one of the most important interdisciplinary majors in Biological Sciences, that's why the ministry is interested in sending graduate students and researchers to study abroad to have more specialists in this field.
